My fitness journey hasn't been easy or traditional. I was overweight and feeling unloved when my best friend invited me to a Zumba class. I've always loved to dance so, why not?.....that bitch didn't even show up!
I was all alone and nervous in that class when something took over me. The rhythm was infectious and this diva that had been dormant in me for so long finally came out. I had no idea what I was doing, I probably looked stupid but I didn't care. I was having fun. When I later realized I'd burned 600 calories in one hour - that was all it took, I was hooked.
I immediately got my Zumba Fitness certification and started teaching at facilities all over the Quad Cities 6 days a week. It was about a year later when I decided to branch off and put my own twist on dance fitness. We turned off all the lights, put on the explicit music and really tuned in to our inner pop stars. And together we danced away insecurity, depression, and loneliness. We came together as a strong group of women (and men!) who supported one another no matter where they were on their journey.
