What Do You Desire? by Alan Watts

What Do You Actually Desire?

I want you to take a second and strip away the "shoulds."

Strip away the rent, the expectations of your family, the social media highlight reels, and the pressure to be "productive." Now, ask yourself the question Alan Watts famously posed:

"What would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life?"

If you’re feeling out of alignment, it’s usually because you’ve spent too much time answering everyone else's questions and not enough time answering this one.

Most of us are living for a future that doesn't exist. We think, "I’ll do what I love once I have X amount in the bank," or "I’ll focus on my joy after I finish this project." As Watts points out, if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like in order to go on living—that is, to go on doing things you don’t like. It’s a glitch in the frequency.

When you do what you desire, you become a master of it. And when you are a master of your craft—whatever that is, from painting to plumbing to psychic readings—you eventually find a way to make it work. Why? Because you are operating at your highest frequency. People can feel that. They are drawn to the person who has come alive.

Your Soul’s Homework

If you are struggling to find your "Inner Witch" or can’t seem to hear your guides, it might be because your current lifestyle is too loud. You’re too busy surviving to actually live.

Take ten minutes today to sit with these questions:

  1. If money was off the table, what would I do with my Tuesday?

  2. Am I doing what I love, or am I just "getting by" to eventually do what I love?

  3. Where am I suppressing my true desire because it "doesn't make sense" to the world?

Forget the Money, Find the Flow

The secret to manifestation isn't obsessing over the dollar amount; it's obsessing over the feeling. When you align with your true desire, the universe stops being a struggle and starts becoming a dance. Stop treating your life like a business meeting and start treating it like a masterpiece.

After all, as Alan Watts said, you are under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago.
